Healthy Sunscreen Guide

There is a lot of medical evidence that spending too much time in the sun increases the risk of cancer and can be harmful to our health. It is recommended to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to any skin that is exposed. But what is the safest SPF to use and what about the possible link between the sunscreens that contain Benzophenone (BP)- type UV filters and endometriosis?

Reality is that many sunscreen brands on today’s market contain BPs. These ingredients are great for blocking harmful rays but when absorbed into the bloodstream they mimic the effects of the hormone estrogen. Estrogen increases the chance of developing endometriosis which is why they should be avoided at all costs.

As Dr. J says in his book, Thriving in the 21st Century, “We must rethink sun protection. Instead of buying chemical sunscreens, select a sunscreen that uses sesame oil and zinc oxide as a barrier to protect your skin.” Sesame oil resists 30 percent of UV rays – it is a valuable moisturizer and skin conditioner, rich in Vitamins A and E. Mineral oxides like zinc scatter sun rays and protect vulnerable skin. Better yet, wear a hat and sun-protective clothing!
